Word of Caution for Parents:
You don't have to be around our church very long before hearing ways we intentionally support the reality that parents are the primary faith nurturers of their children. We encourage you to prepare-event-debrief (P-E-D) with your children to foster that relationship and set them up for success.
With this in mind, one way we want to support you as you lead your family is to let you know when a sermon topic may not be appropriate for young ears or developing hearts. This sermon will be covering Judges chapters 19-21. While children are more than welcome to participate in normal services, we encourage you to read the passage for this sermon ahead of time and discern whether or not you'd want your child to listen to it.
In Judges 14, we find the people of Israel very comfortable among the Philistines. In what ways does the story indicate that Samson and Israel have assimilated into Philistine culture, that they are no longer distinct as God’s people?
Why is assimilation into culture so attractive to God’s people? In what ways have you felt that pressure in your own life?
In the story of Samson, what does God do for his people who have assimilated into the culture of the Philistines? In what ways has God worked in your life to rescue you from being assimilated into a culture that is against God?
There are many things Samson did that were empowered by the Holy Spirit, yet his life was filled with compromise. What is the warning you receive from Samson’s life?
What are the leadership tests in front of you?
In what ways have you said yes to following God into those leadership tests and in what ways have you given your glory to another?
